..it is a pleasure to see the learned Mr. Eldritch acknowledge that this much-maligned band did, at its best, excel at creating an atmosphere of tremendous emotional darkness and mystery.
I might myself have chosen their vengeful, curse-ridden "The Chain" as slightly more Gothic than "Gold Dust Woman", but for a haunting mood piece GDW is hard to surpass, and the ominous, demanding vocal on the chorus is just nonpareil;
Ms. Nicks would do nothing so fine until "Edge of Seventeen",
a full four years later.
