Ok folks as promised here's me tale of madness and mayhem about Liss and I's trip (and our friend who should be joining the list today) to La to see MM and stuff.
Well , on our way to the show I coudlnt find my id and had to go back to my friends house to look for it - we got basically across the street and aroudn a corner and parked to walk back o her place. I'm wearing a vinyl miniskirt and vinyl bodysuit, fishnets and black vinyl gloves mind you. Its at most a 2-3 ,minute walk - and a somewhat busy street ran by there - in that short amount of time I had somewhere between 7-10 catcalls - cars slowing down, whistlling - yelling things. This is LA and im getting this reaction - waht the hell - it got rather intimidating. It was kind of a good lesson for me cause now I have more empathy for women who dare to go out dressed liek that and have to deal with the kind of shit I got - at first it was kinda funny but after a while I was just intimidated and a bit scared.. neat to be put in a role reversl kinda situation.
FINALLY we get there and I jhabve to return to the car to drop of my ring and by the tiem we get in Spork is off stage and Cluth has done three songs (NEVER trust time on Bass/Ticketmaster tix it was off by 15-30 min). Were kinda bummed at missing some of clutch but it was nicer to see the crowd into them sicne I LOVE THEM BOYZ!!!! I missed two of my faves but tehy were still great - ey have GREAt energy and the singer is sutch a goofball. They are just rad music - really groove laden rcoknroll but taken to a loud harsh metaaly but cooler place and I liked the star wars stuff. It is kinda lame tho how they end opna longg instrumental - its cool for ther singer to step back and let his band be seen but it just gets old - as soon as he leaves stage at teh last song (whcih was the GREAT spacegrass) go get some water = pee whatever - its basically over then.
After we got our water and such and I sturggled at the urinal trying to get me one-eyed trouser snake outr of me fishnet pantyhose and vinyl skirt (didnt work - had to get a stall and wokr on it) we got situated up front. I woudl say teh place holds maybe 2,000 and it was packed! The set is liek everyone has said a cool ouiha board backdrop that occasionally glowed and little marionettes with howdy doody looking dolls and surgical tubing - and one chicken thown in there. The Rev. came out on his stilts and kicked straight into Wrapped In Plastic - polly my fave, along with Get Yer Gunn. It was RAD and the sound was great (so no temper tantrums were thrown) Unfortunately I couldnt get as in to it cause of my #1 concert annoyance - Crowdsurfers - kinda hard to get rreeeeal into a song when you have to be continually trying to stop our head getting kicked in. I'll say this about crowd surfers - you may be just trying to have fun and tahts nice and dandy but you are inevitabley hurting someone. If I see you in my space i will hurt you or at leat make sure you get the FUCK away froim me - Ive been kicked in the head one too many times. Tips to ppl who hate crowd sufers liek I do: Making a nice cats claw kinda shape with her hand and randomly forcefully grabbing/tearing scratching is effective - also if they have long hauir grabbing it and forcefully pulling downward is effective - so is the occasionally jumping up and pushing on the midsection so they are sure to go down. I dont want to get in a big argument over pro or anti crowd surfing - this is just my take on it. I'm a noviolent perosn by nature but if you get that much in my space and threatn my safety thats how im gonna deal with it.
Due to the TONS fo crowdsurfing (this is LA) I eventually moved to the side of the front and enjoyed myslef a bit more there. The show totally surprised me considering that the songs I enjoyed most were NOT my faves. He threw TONs of weird shit into my monkey -some of the stuff that is in the verion they did like on the radio show (beatles stuff) other stuff i didnt know where it came from - he seemd to go most nuts during this song. Smells like children was INCREDIBLE - I want this song sooooooooooooooooooooooooo baD! If I heard right the chorus seemes to be "tell me somethig terrible" and Im wondering if the song will start with the Willy WOnka soundbyte "the suspense is terrible - I hope it lasts." It is a very tweaked evil heavy percussion song and i was BLOWN AWAY! The best song of he night was prolly Rock N Roll nigger! The rev mixed in some "this is our world in which we grow.." and "we are your shirt.." type of lines in the song. I must admit im a total sap who on occasion gets tears in his eyes just when I hear a certain part of a song i think is incrdible or other such songs - well Rocknroll nigger had me momentarily choked up it was so good. They left stage VERY MOMENTARILY and then came back and played Sweet Dreams and Misery Machine. I thought it was rad that they didnt wait for 5 minutes for everyone to stand around and scream their name and such - no rockstar ego there. All in all a GREAT SHOW!!!
