The first band on was an unknown. The singer looked a lot like the
guy you had mentioned (Anton LaVey Jr) that formerly drove Danzigs bus.
He was wearing a bloodstained wet ankle-length tight skirt. He sang
a lot about bodily fluids and made sexual overtures toward a blow-up
doll hanging from the rafters. The music and his voice left a lot to
be desired. (oh yeah, he had a strap on torch dildo that he lit up at
the end of the set.
The second band was Clutch, a bad imitation of Rollins Band. Very
uninteresting, not much imagination put into the set (StarWars cut-outs)
or the music. To give him a little bit of credit, the singer did use
a lot of rap style hand gestures that at least gave the audience
something to focus on.
Finally the stage was set up for Manson. The backdrop was a Ouija
board with Manson (something) written at the top. (sorry, couldn't
see it as it was slightly off to the right of the stage.) There
was about 8 Charlie McCarthy dolls hanging from the rafters. The
drum set was in the back and to the left, Ginger was kind of
penned in, maybe it's in his contract?, you really never got to see
him at all. Madonna was to the right of Ginger, Twiggy and Daisy
in their usual places.... the cube was a little to the left of Daisy.
Twiggy and Daisy took their places on stage and the music started, the
Reverend walked out onto the stage wearing stilts that were attached to
his shoes (orthopedic stilts!), he looked about 7 feet tall and pretty
sinister considering he was wearing a black shift that reached a little
below his knees, he was wearing thigh high nylons attached to
a garter belt and the big knee high black platform shoes, he marched
around the stage being quite theatrical, keeping the dress on for the
whole song. Naturally I forget the exact set list, but they played all the
usual (Dope Hat, Get Yr Gunn, Lunchbox, Cyclops, My Monkey, Cake and Sodomy,)
plus two new songs I've never heard, Smells Like Children, and as an encore
they did Sweet Dreams! The sound was VERY bad, but the theatrics were
incredibly professional as usual! Daisy still has that awful hair and was
spotted by me wandering around in the crowd before the show, he had it pulled
up so it looked like green dreads but nonetheless, I spotted him! Twiggy
was wearing the pink dress, most of his hair was down except for a bit
sticking up that seemed to be suppported by wires! Weird! He looked
like a bedraggled soiled rag doll as usual. Oh yeah, and Daisy was wearing
a Black shirt and those green tight pants (what a surprise!). Madonna had
the usual red hose, black shorts, red shirt and all that stuff (scary looking).
Mr Manson pulled the dress over his head to reveal his thong underwear and
garter belt, he has such a nice unblemished white butt one just HAD to
admire it! He didn't do the shaking and twitching like he usually does,
instead he seems to have been taking some kind of belly dancing or whatever
as he moves his shoulders and upper body like he's boneless, it's really
quite entrancing...
They played for a REALLY long time, and came back for a two song encore,
no mishaps. The crowd was VERY tame, except right up front and I'm sure
a six year couldn't have got hurt in that pit... I'd say the place was
about 1/8 full, prolly 150 people at most. Not packed in tight at all,
the crowd BARELY MOVED, except for us die-hard fans!
The only violence was when the Reverend took a bottle that I'm POSITIVE
was one of those sugar bottles, broke it several times on his chest and
then "cut" himself with it. Maybe he's getting too wise to use a real one?
At the end of the very last song he took the mike stand and whapped it
a couple of times, but you could tell he didn't have his heart in it.
All in all a great performance except for the fact that the sound sucked
badly and if you weren't familiar with the music you wouldn't be able to
make out most of the words and SOME of the music.
