We got to the Santa Monica Civic just in time to catch a few songs from
L7. I had never seen them live before, but I really wasn't impressed.
Next it was time for the Reverend Manson and his crew.
I hadn't seen Marilyn Manson in over a year. They opened with "Angel
With The Scabbed Wings," and quickly went into "Dogma" and "Get Your
Gunn." The stage had a big stained glass window of an Angel. I really
don't remember the order of the songs but they also did "Dried Up, Tied
And Dead To The World," "Tourniquet," "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," "The
Beautiful People," "Little Horn," "Sweet Dreams," "Lunch Box," "Cake And
Sodomy," "1996," and "The Reflecting God."
I was really impressed by Mr. Manson. There new guitarist Zim Zum did a
great job. He fit right in and played great. It was the first time I had
seen Madonna Wayne Gacy play the keyboards with out a keyboard stand.
My favorite song was "Anti-Christ Superstar." The band comes out in full
army gear. The Rev. Manson is raised on a podium to chant to all his
disciples and preach in his coat and tie. It looked like a Nazi rally
but instead of swastikas it was "The Anti-Christ Superstar" logos on the
back drops. The very last song was pretty incredible also. They ended
the show with "Man That You Fear." All I could see was the stage light
on the microphone stand while snow flakes floated around in the air in
what looked like a microphone wrapped in those Hawaiian Lays. I couldn't
see any of the band or the Rev. I guess he was there but, I couldn't see
him.
The set was very long. Check these out these creeps if they come to a
venue near you. You won't be disappointed.
