Just got back from driving the 400 miles or so frm Columbus Ohio to home
after seeing MM again last night at th Newport Music Hall and man were they
BRILLIANT!!!! Glad to see them doing so well on the Danzig tour as this was
the first show I've had a chance to catch this time 'round.
We (me & two roomies ya know as Coyote & Angelynx) got into town early &
went to see Glenn Danzig at a signing at a comic book store called the
Laughing Ogre & it was great to chat wth him (Glenn's a good friend of mine)
From the signing we went to the venue to get in the front of the line.
The show was sold out & the line quickly grew - the funny thing to watch
were the various Mansons sneaking by and watching the line - Daisy went
around the block three times without being noticed by the the rest of the
line; I waved to him, not wanting to draw attention to him lest he get
bothered & I got a slight smile in return. Madonna had a leather jacket
thrown over himself & pased himself off as a skin. Mr. Manson & Twiggy
stood at the corner & stared at the crowd before retreating to the bus - I
don't think anybody esle spotted them. (Mr. Manson had on little black
shorts, long sleeved black T & shades)
Got in & grabbed front row center spots. Endured Korn; I thought they were
pretty pathetic. Singer kinda cute but trying too hard to do the spastic
Manson moves without it working.
Marilyn Manson were BRILLIANT! I'd say of the 6 times I've seen 'em it was
their 2nd best show. (My fav is still the one from the TLA in Philly in
February) Even without all their props they kicked ass & Mr.Manson was in a
GREAT mood. He noticed the three of us RIGHT away & gave us this big grin
like "They came back!!!" & perched right in front of us for 90% of the show
& sang to us. He had fun taking a few stage dives. Didn't cut himself up
(thank ghod or whatever) though his stomach shows many recent scars, he
still broke the light bulb on his chest during "Sweet Dreams" though. He
did have quite a bit of fun waving around his rock star dick (mostly tucked
between his legs sticking out the back but he turned around enough that we
saw it from that angle quite a lot ) & played with himself quite a bit. At
one point he went over to Twiggy & lifted up his pink dress & pulled out
Twiggy's weenie & tugged on it & Twiggy went over backwards waving his
stockinged legs & boots in the air!
Mr. Manson was in his black vinyl pants & huge rubbery boots;Twiggy in
fuschia pink & white dress (style wise much like his Green one) with black
stockings & black books; madonna was wearing his red jacket over a black
rubber wet suit kinda thang with the obligatory chicken foot & Daisy had on
the black t shirt with the gun on it I've seen in photos. Didn't get a good
look at Ginger aside from noticing his black & white hair. (Truthfully I
hardly took my eyes off Mr. Manson)
But I did notice Ned's shirt taped up on Twiggy's amp!!! Way to go Ned!
Set wise I don't remember the exact order - they opened with Cake & Sodomy &
closed with Misery Machine and in between included Cyclops, Dopehat, Organ
Grinder, Sweet Dreams, Come Together/My Monkey and Snake Eyes & Sissies.
Get Your Gunn was noticably absent (hey, how many bands would neglect to
play THE SINGLE! Give 'em credit for it)
Enjoyed Danzig as always - Glenn gave me a pendant of the Michael Kaluta
yin/yang design that matches my tattoo of it & I kissed him & thanked him
hugely since he didn't even know it was my birthday (by then being past
midnight and th 19th of April) but once he knew he wished me a happy
birthday too.
Had fun driving back today - we detoured thru Zanesville OH looking for Ohio
state Route 666 hoping to rip off a street sign (MM's road crew already did
since I'd seen one in their equipment truck on the club tour) We got off at
the wrong exit first but in doing so found the COOLEST car parked in front
of a CD store called "CD Jungle" (I think) - it had MARILYN MANSON logo done
up real big across the upper front windshield. I pulled into the parking
lot to take a picture of it & noticed the back windshield decorated with one
of the Reverend's self portraits painted in white & the corner was signed
"Rev.Marilyn Manson) and on a side window was a Spooky Tree as well as a MM
TV head sticker. Dashed into the CD shop wearing my TV head shirt & asked
"OK who's car?" and they were already cracking up as they'd been watching me
snap photos of it. Said car's owner came forth & I congradulated him on his
decorating sensibilities & we both raved a bit about the previous nights
show. (He'd done the work himself - the signature he'd enlarged from an
autograph that Rev. Manson had signed for him)
From there we DID find Route 666 - all the street signs in unpopulated areas
have already been stolen but I did get coyote to snap a shot of me posing in
front of one in my Satanic army shirt.
Now I can't wait for the rest of the shows. Leave the 29th for Wilkes Barre
& from there I'm traviling to Pittsburgh, Norfolk, Myrtle Beach, Charlotte,
Birmingham, Knoxville, Panama City, Jacksonville, Sunrise, Tampa and
Orlando. TWELVE MORE SHOWS - whoopeee!!!!!! I am SO psyched!!! Many more
reports to follow!
Gotta go crash... too many miles & not enuff sleep!!! Later! - EVB
