Show: The Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA, Nov. 9th, 1998
I must say, this was a great show. They didnt play long, some of the crowd sucked, but all in all it was a great show. We arrived at the Tabernacle at 4 p.m... stood outside in line until about 6:30 p.m. The Tabernacle is the best possible place for a Manson show, it's very Rocky Horror stage show. I really liked the size of the place.. it was very small. I like smaller venue.. I hate larger ones.
I had never heard the 12 Rounds album.. but I had heard them doing a live concert at LALive.com. I thought the real audio concert was terrible, so I wasn't really wanting to have to listen to them.. But, when they came out and started playing I had already gotten fucked up. I listened to the first few songs they played.. by the third I was fucking loving them. 12 Rounds has something going.. and it could turn out to be something great.
12 Rounds left the stage and they started playing The Wall. Just listening to The Wall was a good part of the show. Some people where singing along and others looked as if they didn't know what was playing. The Wall just gave the concert a feel. Some people where even moshing to The Wall... which is funny to me. heh. I'm glad that was the music Marilyn decided to play inbetween sets.
I've been to 3 Manson shows before this one.. but I must say I liked this show as much or more than the others I've seen. They opened with Reflecting God, which was great.. really got the crowd going. We where standing to the front of the stage almost at the bar... the crowd started getting real rough. I think the a major part of a concert is the audience... For a Manson show you need a hyped up crowd jumping and sweating.. getting into it.. This crowd (atleast the front and center crowd) did not disappoint. SIDE NOTE: I hope the two bleeding, pushing, shoving, stepping in front of me lesbians got their asses kicked by Shotgun. Heh.
The band was real tight.. only a few mistakes. I really liked the opening set up and the stage setup. The band seemed to be having fun. Manson showed some aggression during the beginning of Rockin' Roll Nigger.. he semi-attacked a roadie that just happened to be on stage fucking with the mike cord. Mechanical Animals worked well with Manson on the stilts.. gave the song a different feel. After Sweet Dreams the band kicked into a little jam, sounding good... you couldn't help but jump around. All in all it was a good show.
I wasn't sure the show would be that great.. I figured the bands change might calm them down and make the show a little less active. But I must say, the band had a lot of energy, they sounded great, they mixed the old with the new very well, and they just charged all the song with new sound. All the older songs sounded different but the same... they had different feel to them... but it all worked well. The Mechanical Animals tour is not one to miss.
