Hello all,
Just wanted to give you a brief rundown of the show last night in Atlanta, Ga. It was held at The Tabernacle which is a desanctified church which really added to ambience.
The line...uneventful....accept for one asshole who was passing out some kind of book. He approached myself and my buddy and asked why we are in line cuz we looked "normal." I am 30 years old and basically had on blue jeans, t-shirt and boots. I had to tell him how ridiculous his statement was and what made me any more "normal" or "abnormal" than anyone else. Anyway, not worth going into.
The Show was all general admission and the place holds about 3500 people. I had no intentions of fighting a crowd in the pit so I took my seat on the first balcony, right side, next to the stage. So I had a seat as well as an incredible view. It was about 6:30 at this point and time to swill some beer.
8:00 opening act....Who else, this is all routine by now...12 rounds. There were about 2 songs that I thought were relatively good, you couldn't really hear her sing. At best I would compare them to a poor facsimile of "Siouxsie and the Banshees" (if any of you are my age and grew up in the 80's) :)
After suffering through their set got up to grab another beer. Notice the floor area which was now a sea of people pretty much shoulder to shoulder. The pushing had already started, I was glad to not be down there. Lights go down, Well, needless to say crowd goes wild myself included. I am not going into set lists and opening songs because everybody has said it already. One thing I will say is "Sweet Dreams" was part of the regular set list and we were blessed with the encore "The Beautiful People" (no sound or tech problems obviously!) bit dissapointed we didn't get "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" but hey. There really was no pit so to speak of the were just too many damn people down there. Highlights of the show: Speed of Pain-What else can you say about this song accept to experience live makes you appreciate it that much more. I found myself teary eyed at the end of it....maybe a bit too many beers :) Lunchbox & Cake & Sodomy-His early career but big crowd pleasers.
I recommend if you are going to see this show be very familiar with Mechanical Animals. The show is very much MA with bits of previous CD's thrown here and there. I obsessed over this CD and am glad I did. If you are going because you loved ACS you may be disappointed. The encore had the podium and backdrop and all but it was very brief....but kick ass as well.
I will say that I read other reviews that said probably one of the best concerts I have seen and I found myself skeptical of this. Hell, I have been to quite a few concerts in my day and have seen some incredible events. This IS one of the best shows I have seen. The energy, the lighting, the band. It was a tight show!
Have a good one all,
Dan Nero
