I do not completely agree. (I'm not having a hissy - just disagreeing)
Here's why:
A. Very small crowd anyway, very small venue. There's only so much you can do with a theater type place.
B. Security was *waaaaaaaaaay* hyped up. I was on the end of a row and the *entire* time there were security guys going back and forth making sure that no one was too far into the aisles, and generally making their presence known.
C. Manson was on edge from moment one, and I'm almost willing to bet money that he was presented with a list of things he couldn't do onstage. Since the stupid protest shit here there has been there's been a lot of publicity surrounding this show. If you remember, I posted something that I read about it - that Manson would be fined $10,000 if he made *any* reference to leaving your seat or rushing the stage, and with the way NC is (did you guys know that GWAR was fucking *banned* from playing in Charlotte for 5 years? A club booked em once and was facing a fine of $10,000 if they went thru with it.)I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been threatened with arrest for inciting a riot if he said anything like that, or threatened with arrest for any so called *obscene* acts. (GWAR was arrested here.) Since several of the reviews I've read of other shows have mentioned him saying things like this, I'm guessing he wasn't very happy about it. Chances are he was pissed before he ever saw the crowd.
D. The crowd was very into it - but like I said, security made their presence well known, and I think most ppl were a little intimidated. I've been going to concerts here for over 10 years now and there's not even that much fucking security at Blockbuster Pavilion for a show. (Which seats about 10 times as many ppl.)
E. The sound was pretty bad... there were some screw ups that I caught in the sound and some of the loops... Don't Like The Drugs in fact sounded *bad* (I was laughing too hard at the DRUGS sign to pay too much attn to it tho.) Personally having seen Mr. Manson have a hissy fit *twice* because the sound wasn't *perfect* I'd also be willing to bet that had a little something to do with it.

Granted - that was the most reserved I've ever seen a crowd be at a Manson show, but I believe that had more to do with the location of the show (for pete's sake my niece's *dance recital* was held at Ovens Auditorium!! It is *not* a place to see Marilyn friggin Manson.), the fact that there was a lot of publicity surrounding this show, and the security being so hopped up. From where I was, Row z, where I could see most of the crowd, people were into it.

I will readily admit tho that I was not as into the show as I have been in the past. There wasn't any of the fun I associate with Manson shows. No Planetcom ladies... none of the community feeling I used to get from being there for 4 or more hours before the show. I knew very few people there and felt like I was 20 miles away from the stage. Even tho I've never been one to brave the pit, I've never felt that far away before. There was also just a weird vibe about the place with all that security. And it's Charlotte for fuck's sake. Buncha dumbass rednecks *always* get tix, even to these sold out shows. I also got the feeling that this show, thanks to all the publicity, was *the show to see this year even if you don't see any other* - so there were a few ppl there just so they could say they were. Again - most of this I would blame on the choice of venue more than anything else. They played at one of the smallest venues in Charlotte.

And anyone who's been to all the past Charlotte shows - at the Ritz w/Danzig, Jeremiah's w/Clutch, & the Grady Cole Center w/NYLoose - could tell you - the Charlotte shows are always the worst on the whole damn schedule. Is it any wonder I'm friggin excited about moving to LA?

Ok, for the whole 2 people who may have actually read this (I have a distinct feeling no one ever reads my posts anymore - but hey, that's ok.) thanks.

Go back to your lives now.
Luv
Melanie
