This page is new and we hope it will serve as a resource to fellow Marilyn Manson fans. We've noticed with distressing regularity that large numbers of allegedly "signed" Manson CDs and memorabilia up for auction at the eBay auction site feature autographs that are fake. Even more distressing is the fact that most of these forged autographs are being sold by "Professional" autograph dealers who will provide a "certificate of authenticity", which is no more than a worthless piece of paper backing up a bogus claim.
The selling of fake autographs on eBay is epidemic; the current issue of EBAY Magazine (published by Krause Publications) has a large article on the phoney sports autographs being sold and likewise warns that many of the fake signatures are being sold by "reputable" dealers, frequently with high eBay feedback ratings.
One wonders if these "professional" dealers are crooks or simply extremely naive and unquestioning in regards to their suppliers - it certainly makes one wonder about the legitimacy of the rest of their wares as well!
It is buyers' responsibility to EDUCATE themselves so that they do not get ripped off! If you are buying a signature without having any idea what it SHOULD look like, you are obviously in a position to be easily taken advantage of. If you know what it should look like, you are better armed to judge the piece and decide whether or not you think it is real.
As we hate to see fellow fans cheated, we have scanned many of the autographs in our collection as examples you can compare to. We have been traveling to Manson shows since early 1995 and have seen them perform over 60 times each. We have had a chance to meet them on many occasions and get pieces signed for our collections. Please note, we are NOT selling any of these pieces, they are only shown for reference. We have shown a number of examples so you can compare to those of different eras, as the signatures have changed some over the years and
We hope this page will be of use to other fans and keep some from being ripped
off! If you have already placed a bid on a piece of merchandise and are now
having second doubts about whether or not it is real, I would certainly
suggest retracting your bid.
