As you'll see in a moment, this is an anime with a huge amount of backstory--so much that a lot of points, both character- and plot-related, are raised early on and then never referred to again, presumably for lack of time to explain them. Some of these are quite important to full comprehension of the story. I want to pass on this information--or at least, what I know of it-- but I also want to respect the rights of those who don't like to know more than they see in the anime proper, so here's what I've done: I've created this set of linked background documents.
