Though he was decorated for bravery as a soldier of Hispania during the war, at some point thereafter he was jailed on a charge of having killed 30 clergymen (why he did so, or even if he really did, isn't clear). Catherina intervened for him and struck a deal whereby he's allowed to leave prison to serve missions for AX; he has his sentence reduced by a number of years for each mission.
